Bringing the wild side to York City Centre!

Bringing the wild side to York City Centre!

Over the past couple of months we have been working with clients to bring biodiversity into York’s City Centre.

One client is the Learning Centre at York Minster whom wished to transform an area of Deans Park into a Wildflower haven using Lindum Wildflower turf.

The Learning Centre wanted to create a walk way for children to get up close and personal with insects and bees and learn about the importance they have on the world. Here at Lindum we love to encourage any educational campaigns so it was a privilege to be involved. Not only did they have that going on but also lots of other activities for children to get involved in too.

As ever, being able to work in the grounds of such an iconic building is something we absolutely love. The wildflower installation will be there all the way through the children’s school holidays and then the wildflower will be moved to a different place in the garden and made a permanent feature.

On the 2nd July our team not only installed the wildflower in the Minster Gardens, we also installed 22 square metres of Lindum Wildflower turf to the Secret Garden at York Theatre Royal for the lovely Nicola at Time and Space Garden & Planting Design and Camilla of Camilla Grayley Garden Design. The secret garden is a place we didn’t know existed, a secret well-kept until now! It has been transformed into a fabulous easy to manage area for passers-by to enjoy. Make sure you pop along and see it! For those of you that can’t picture where it is, if you are looking at the theatre it is to the left up a few steps. The wildflower has been placed as a back drop to various different planters and really does finish off the space well giving a low maintenance feature. We had wildflower already in flower so we delivered this flat and it gave such great impact.

The city was alive with creative floral displays as that week was also the week prior to the Bloom in York weekend. Wildflower was also installed in St Sampson Square along with the WowGrass which formed a green space for people to relax. It is fair to say, York had never looked so green!

Lindum Turf is the parent company of WowGrass. WowGrass caters for events, generally bringing the outside in and creating green space in places you wouldn’t usually expect. With this product, the only limitation is your imagination. WowGrass is a soil free real turf so you can’t get any more authentic than that! WowGrass took pride of place at the train station and York Minster Gardens as well as St Sampson Square. It wasn’t only on the ground, there was a range of products such as the WowWall & WowSofa. We love unusual projects and installations all around the country but there is something special about supplying our products to our home city. It has been a great opportunity for the business as a whole to showcase what we can do with our versatile products.
