Over the years we have had some interesting requests from our clients at RHS Chelsea Flower Show. This year was certainly no exception, in fact I think we can safely say it was one of the most talked about features at this year’s show.
Mark Gregory, the creator of the multiple award winning Welcome to Yorkshire garden took the task of creating an idyllic scene based on the Wensleydale landscape. From dry stone walls to a natural grass meadow and running stream, the garden really did turn heads.
Mark’s grassy meadow with buttercups, cowslips and clover was grown and nurtured for many months prior to the show here at Lindum HQ. One of the final conversations we had with Mark prior to the delivery of the meadow was the most unusual we have ever had! We never thought on asking if he needed anything else, that he would request a cowpat – yes a real COWPAT!
Luckily, being on a farm the cowpat was no problem for us what so ever. In fact, in reality this was quite an easy task for us and very amusing for us all. Never did we think we would be looking for a ‘good looking’ cowpat to be on an iconic show garden at Chelsea Flower Show. Let’s face it, cowpat and SW3 have never been put in the same sentence until now!
It is fair to say it caused a stir nationwide reaching TV programmes including Have I Got News for You and various different news channels. Even Theresa May pointed it out and commented ‘how wonderful’ during her visit to the show. We loved the Welcome to Yorkshire garden. It was so authentic, it instantly took you out of the city and you just felt at ease in the Yorkshire countryside.
