Grassfelt™ was used to dramatic effect on the angular sculptured landscape surrounding the Laban Dance Centre in Deptford, London.

The patented grass Grassfelt™ was used to dramatic effect on the angular sculptured landscape surrounding the Laban Dance Centre in Deptford, London. The project won the Stirling Award for Architecture.

Baylis Landscapes, the main contractor, carved the 3.8m high landscape structures, with each face at a different angle. Grassfelt™ was then used to overcome problems with soil stabilisation and to provide an instant natural turf finish.

The project required 2000m2 of Grassfelt™, as well as 1200m2 of washed turf and 1200m of LT3 Ryegreen (Lindum's fine ryegrass mixture), which was laid on the flatter areas.

Grassfelt™ is a patented grass product developed by Lindum that produces soil-less turf on a biodegradable base. It is specially designed to retain moisture, and is tough and flexible. Due to its flexibility, Grassfelt™ can be laid over unusual contours.

Three weeks after installation, a corner of the Grassfelt™ was lifted up to reveal 3 inch long roots that had grown through the felt and into the soil.
