A Whole Farm Approach
Lindum Seeded Turf Ltd is based in York, We have taken a “Whole Farm Approach” when it involves been extremely Eco Friendly.
We are members of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) and Environmental Farming production linked to good environmental management. The LEAF Sustainable Farming Review covers the 9 sections of Integrated Farm Management (IFM): Organisation and Planning, Soil Management and Fertility, Crop Health and Protection, Pollution Control and By-Product Management, Animal Husbandry, Energy Efficiency, Water Management, Landscape and Nature Conservation, Community Engagement.
Plastic Free
We are always looking for new innovative ways to grow our products. Whilst the turf products have always been plastic free, we are very proud to be the only grower of plastic free wildflower.
Solar Panels
We actively promote Green energy through the use of Solar Panels that power the sprinklers. Where there’s solar power, remote water pumping becomes a possibility because it enables farmers to bring the energy to the equipment.
Water and Irrigation
We also have our own Boreholes and a sophisticated irrigation system of energy saving with variable speed pumps. A water bore hole is essentially a well, this is a practical well which can provide some key benefits, and Bore Holes are much more self-sufficient. The water from a bore hole sits dormant underground which has been accumulated naturally by rainfall and underground springs. It also means an access to a reliable water supply which won’t be interrupted by problems caused by things such as leaks or poor connections from antiquated pipe systems.
Fertilisation
The fertilisation process of growing grass has also been modified to be more Eco Friendly through Foliar Applications. Foliar feeding is a common practice of supplying nutrients to plants through their foliage. It involves spraying water-dissolved fertilisers directly on the leaves. Many believe that foliar feeding is favourable over soil application and it is associated with higher yields, and better fruit quality. This is also a technique that reduces wastage of water, this is because the plant will absorb water through its roots. Where fertilising through the soil is to be used, the nutrients in the soil will most likely leach resulting in a nutrient deficient plant.
Getting Involved
At Lindum HQ we also actively help out with agricultural surveys i.e. measuring rainfall and we recently took part in the Great British bird count. With Wildflower meadows and woods nearby to also encourage natural habitats for a large variety of species native to the local area.
